The rug started life as a sleeping mat.
It was created to provide humans with warmth, protection, rest,
a shroud for the dead, a bundle in which to carry tools.
For those who wandered for years,
following their flocks and herds,
the rug was a singular comfort: a better bed than the cold ground
or the rough hides of animals.
The Rug Society of Indiana will begin its Fall program on Saturday, September 16th at 1:30pm in the DeBoest Lecture Hall at the IMA. The topic will be American Arts & Crafts Textiles presented by Dianne Ayres. We will have more great speakers at the Indianapolis Museum of Art participating in our show and tells.
